Lon Dubh (Blackbird in Scots Gaelic!)

Perhaps a bit of a stretch for this site, but Julie Fowlis, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney ARE all from the Isles. 🙂 A perfect match, I’d say.

Lon-dubh (Blackbird)

Lon dubh a’ seinm i gciúin na hoích’
Tóg do sciatháin bhriste is éirigh suas
Fad do shaoil
Tá tú a’ feitheamh leis an uair go mbeifeá saor

Lon dubh a’ seinm i gciúin na hoích’
Tóg na súile dubh’ is breathnaigh síos
Fad do shaoil
Tá tú a’ feitheamh leis an uair go mbeifeá saor

Lon dubh scaoil, lon dubh scaoil
Isteach i solas dubh na hoích’

English

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
