This song was written by the Irish Republican and composer Paedar Kearney (1883-1942). He was a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (“the Fenians”) and a co-founder of the Irish Volunteers, and he wrote this song about the freedom fighters around the time of the 1916 Rising.
